Milo Irvin Umbarger, 92, of Thayer passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.
Irvin was born in Rural Earlton on November 18, 1920, the son of Winnie and Flossie (Miller) Umbarger.
He was united in marriage to Ida Bernice Greenwood on May 3, 1942 at Otterbein United Brethren in rural Parsons. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2011.
He farmed all of his life and retired from Chanute Manufacturing. Irvin was a member of The Grant Avenue Baptist Church and was a Veteran of WWII.
Irvin is survived by four sons, Ron Umbarger and wife Sylvia of Chanute, KS, Stan Umbarger and wife Jennie of Thayer, KS, Dwayne Umbarger and wife Toni of Thayer, KS, and David Umbarger and wife Elaine of Coffeyville, KS; grandchildren, Todd Umbarger and fiancé Charlotte Ludlum of Chanute, KS, Chris Umbarger and wife Kim of Chanute, KS, Kurt Umbarger and fiancé Jill Bearrows of Littleton, CO, Holly Miller of Chanute, KS, Daniel Umbarger and wife Tanya of Thayer, KS, Matt Umbarger and wife Robin of Chanute, KS, Emily Lawrence and husband Scott of Joplin, MO, Alina Heater and husband Kyle of Tyro, KS, Alicia Johnson and husband Derek of Kansas City, KS, Amy Umbarger of Wichita, Clint Umbarger of Coffeyville, KS, and Jared Umbarger and wife Marissa of Cleveland, OK; three step-grandchildren, Melissa Tarbet of Chanute, KS, Michael Hartman and wife Carrie of Thayer, KS, and Viki Brown of Chanute, KS; 26 great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Umbarger of Chanute, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bernice; six brothers, Vernie, Raymond, Leo, Merle, Chester, and Wayne Umbarger; and one sister, Fern Powers.
Funeral services will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Ambassador Christian Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Kurt Umbarger Van Fund or Grant Avenue Baptist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
