OBITUARY FOR – James Fred Edmonson, 87
James Fred Edmonson, 87, of Herington, died Thursday, October 11th, 2012, at his home. He was born on January 13, 1925, at Michigan Valley, Kansas, the son of James V. and Nora A. (Jensen) Edmonson.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00PM Monday, October 15th, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Musician for the service will be Judy Peterson and serving as pallbearers Vince Edmonson, Roger Engle, Morris Jensen, Justin Schmidt, Tracy Schmidt, and Mike Trapp. A burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, with Military Honors. Friends may call from 2pm to 5pm, Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel.
Mr. Edmonson was a Technician for Beech Aircraft, retired from Salina Beech Aircraft in January 1987. He was Past President & Secretary for Beech Flying Club; and was instrument rated pilot. He taught sheet metal classes at Salina Beech Craft after he retired, and then restored WWII aircrafts at the Herington Air Base (restoring a B-17). He graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1942. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a Seaman First Class; and served in the Asiatic-Pacific, and Philippine Theater of Action.
He married Evelyn M Schneider, on January 16, 1949, at Herington; she survives of the home. Also, survived by two (2) sons: Jim Edmonson (wife-Deborah) of Omaha, and Mike Edmonson (wife-Suzanne) of Derby; a sister Jessie Schmidt of White City; four (4) grandchildren (Nathial Edmonson, Sophia Edmonson, Jammie O’Dell, & Jason Czaplewski); and four (4) great grandchildren (Madison & Morgan O’Dell, and Kendall & Jordan Czaplewski).
Preceded in death by three (3) sisters (Lavada Ragsdale, Verna Jensen, & Vera Stiles), and three (3) brothers (Marlin, Raymond “Mike”, & Charles).
